amFAR is an aids awareness campaign that runs in conjunction with Milan Fashion Week, and I was blessed enough to attend and meet some very inspirational people!

But before I get into the hype of that, I spent the day with the models relaxing at QC Termemilano ( http://www.termemilano.com ). One of the best spas that I have every been too. It’s incredibly spacious and the interior is beautiful! There are several rooms, including the Sauna, steamroll, lounges, relaxation rooms and the Massage/facial treatment rooms that were located upstairs. The prices are incredibly cheap for the location of the venue and the kind of service they offer. There was a ‘light’ buffet as described, but it turns out it wasn’t as light as they said it would be – with a wide variety of fruits, drinks and appetisers before you head out into the pool area.

It almost reminds me of Roman baths. I would definitely recommend going here, and especially in the evening when the lights dim and candles are lit – it really brings out the aesthetics of the decor. This was followed by a beautiful dinner at Sushi Yokohama, nearby Porto Romana.

“Making Aids History.”

On September 26, amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, will present the seventh annual amfAR Milano in conjunction with Milan Fashion Week. The Italian fashion community has long been exemplary in its support of amfAR, with its fashion houses and designers leading many of the Foundation’s most successful fundraising efforts. To date, amfAR Milano has raised more than $7 million for amfAR’s lifesaving research.
Like all amfAR events, amfAR Milano will draw an exciting and diverse range of distinguished guests, including many of the celebrities, personalities, and designers associated with Milan Fashion Week, as well as famous names from the worlds of music, business, art, and international society. In recent years, amfAR has paid tribute to Remo Ruffini of Moncler and Franca Sozzani of Italian Vogue for each of their outstanding personal commitments to the fight against AIDS. Past events have been chaired by amfAR Global Fundraising Chairman Sharon Stone, Heidi Klum, Janet Jackson, Juliette Lewis, Rosario Dawson, Jeremy Piven, and Diane von Furstenberg, among many others.

What I loved the most about this event was how calm and effortless everything was. There was no superficial attitudes and all the celebrities and guests were completely open to me even though they had no idea who I was.

The fact that I didn’t even realise half of the celebrity guests that were there should tell you how relaxing and natural the whole event was. People were actually there for the aid, which is very rare for charity events – it’s usually just about press or to show face.

The worst part being when I asked Alessandra Ambrosio wha she did for a living *hides face*

“Eni….that’s the Victoria Secret Model.”

It was also great to network with many Fashion Icons and members of the event who really gave kind and meaningful words that will stay with me for a very long time. I love everything that it stands for, and especially admire when Fashion and the fame that it brings can all contribute to solving worldly issues, that would normally not even be associated with the industry.

Here are some images that I took.

The last few days in Milan were stressful fitting in all those last minute go-sees. But we definitely took some time out to visit the central high street of Milano. We couldn’t spend a week there and not visit D&G at least once.

I am not a drinker myself, but the Martini Bar has this amazing selection of cocktails that comes with this chilled ethos that wouldn’t make you think it is owned by D&G, its like a secret garden at first and then you are drawn in by these spectacular light pieces that suspend from the enormous ceilings. The staff there are incredible (with the normal friendliness of Italian hosts) and there is no pressure to really buy as you would get in more high-end venues. Its more about enjoying the experience.

“Eni, you can’t come to a place like this and just order water.”

Don’t have to say much else, see the beautiful venue for yourself:

3 WORDS : “Ciao!”, FOOD, AND FASHION.

Milano is a very interesting place. One of those places that, as being a black woman, you can not leave the house without preparing to be stared down – or holding up traffic with horns being beeped at you everywhere you go.

So as RaelleGrace and I had a bit of colour on our skin – let’s just say we got some interesting reactions. But the people are lovely, and you can always expect a friendly gesture from restaurants, to just regular pedestrians on the street.

Bye. Bye. Diet.

I must say I was expecting the life and soul of the city to be very up and lively but it was not the case. Most of the streets were quite deserted. As in – you could be on a main road and just have a few cars pass by and the appearance that no one is living there, when in fact there are hundreds of cars. So we just assumed that people loved to stay indoors, which I wouldn’t know why because the weather was perfect.

September weather – not too hot, not too cold. Sunshine as well as a bit of a cool breeze.

We were cared by really amazing hosts, and we stayed not too far from the city centre – experiencing the city’s trams for the first time was an experience. And being overly excited when we realised how cheap shopping in ZARA is over there. The prices are the same as here – except its in euros!! So you are automatically getting 1/3 off all your shopping.

And when we weren’t working or going for go-sees, we were exploring places that all the lively people seem to run away too in Milan. It was strange how the streets were so quiet but as soon as you journeyed 5 minutes into the centre or into a popular venue, you feel like you’re in the middle of Times Square. They have some of the best social venues in Milano, such as Hollywood – which was a great experience where we met the lovely Gigi Zeta who hosts these events, and many other friends.

Almost there.

See you Next Year!

And I would love to say a big thank you to Leonardo Salerni and his Father for the invite.
